Upper Key Stage Two Class 2025 - 2026

Miss Pate

Welcome to our Year 5/6 Class Page!

We are a class of amazing year 5 and 6 children. Our class teacher is Miss Pate, however we are lucky enough to have several other adults working with us throughout the week.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you all. I know you will all produce some amazing work this year and I know we will have lots of fun along the way!

Our class newsletter is attached below, with further information about what to expect from our days in school.

How can I help and support my child at school?

There are so many ways in which you can help support your child's learning at home.

  •  Reading - please listen to your child read as often as you can and talk about what they have read. All children will have a school reading book and we do ask them to read this regularly however we also encourage the children to find other interesting texts to read together at home e.g. articles in the local paper; non-fiction books about a hobby; books from the library; an online blog or a recipe for a cake. It is really important that children have their records in school every day as we record other reading in school here too.

  • Maths - tables tables tables! Chant them, test each other in the car, do them backwards, find the corresponding division facts, make up games with thousands of points for the winner! Please help your child to know their times tables inside out - this will help them so much in all other areas of maths. We also do lots of practice in general of mental arithmetic in class e.g. near doubles and halves, rounding, quick fire addition and subtraction.

Homework

Homework for ths year will be on SATs Companion (an online platform). Every Friday, homework for the week will go live on SATs Companion and will be due in for the folllowing Thursday. If the children are getting less than 50% on a homeowork, they should retake the test to ensure learning is solidified. Every Friday, I will send an email out explaining what homework has been set as well as a list of spellings for each week, which need to be practised ready for spelling test in the week.

As part of your child's homework for the week, children should be aiming to read at home at least 4 times a week and practice timestables as often as possible. This will really help and support your children with their learning in school.

Spellings will be sent home on Monday and tested the following Monday to give children a full week to learn them. It is very important that children practice these at home so please support them in this.

Thank you for your support.
