World Book Day , by Miss Booth

What an absolutely fabulous day we have had, celebrating World Book Day today! The children enjoyed showing off their costumes in assembly this morning and the winners to our 'Book in a Jar' competition were announced. The judging of this competition was so tough as every single entry was just phenomenal!
the children have also enjoyed lots of different activities in their classrooms.
Rachael Lindsay Author Visit , by Miss Booth

The children of Woodcocks' Well had a wonderful day today, meeting Rachael Lindsay, a local author.
Rachael is the author of a number of brilliant books, including Warrior Troll, The Bogler's Apprentice and her recent release, A Pirates Promise.
Rachael led an assembly for the whole school, where she introduce the children to her books and many of her wonderful characters.
Olive to Oak class then also took part in writing workshops throughout the day, focusing on different elements of Rachael's books.

Christmas Carol Service 2019, by Mrs Edwards

This morning, the children took part in our annual Christmas Carol Service. The Year 3 children played their nativity parts very well and thoroughly enjoyed retelling the Christmas story. The choir sounded wonderful and it was lovely to hear the congregational hymns sung by all. Well done to all the children and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

On Tuesday 10th December 2019, the children at Woodcocks' Well took part in a wonderful Christingle service at St. Luke's Church. The children all created their own Christingle on Monday and were taught about the significance of the different elements of the Christingle. We had a lovely service led by Reverend Phillip followed by the lighting of the Christingles for the whole school. There was a lovely atmosphere when the lights were turned off in a moment of reflection with only the candles burning. The service was ended with the children and congregation singing 'Shine Jesus Shine' which was very fitting for the event! It was a fantastic service and enjoyed by all who attended.

We had a very exciting assembly this morning! We welcomed ‘Turbo Tom’ from ‘Mad Science’ into school, who shared lots of exciting experiments with us all focused around the 2020 Olympic Games!
I think the children will agree, that this assembly was most certainly one of their favourites. There will be a ‘Mad Science’ after-school running after Christmas for the Key Stage 1 children, who should have come home with a letter today with the details of how to book on. Following on from this, there will be a club for the Key Stage 2 children.
Christmas Choir at Lawton Manor , by Miss Booth

Our wonderful choir performed some of their favourite Christmas songs to the residents of Lawton Manor this afternoon. The children performed some of the classic hymns, such as: ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ and ‘Silent Night’, which the residents were able to join in with. As well as a few ‘jazzier’ numbers, like ‘Frosty the Snowman’ and ‘Have a Holly Jolly Christmas’,

This afternoon, children in Oak Class, Maple Class and Olive Class attended an assembly lead by Lucinda Hodges who works at Cheshire East.
Lucinda told the children all about the way that Cheshire East and other counties, such as Staffordshire, get rid of their rubbish and how the children can really help our planet by ensuring they put the correct things into their bins at home and at school.
Lucinda was also helped school Junior Recycling Officers, Imogen and Sienna. Imogen and Sienna have been set some challenges to help improve our school and how we get rid of items such as fruit cores, skin, leaves etc. Keep a look out to see what ideas Sienna and Imogen come up with.

Town Sports 2019, by Miss Darlington

A huge well done to the children that took part in Town Sports this year. They were absolutely fantastic and we were all so proud of how resilient they were. Their behaviour was exceptional and they all showed amazing team spirit.
Well done to Tom Stanaway (Year 4) for winning the Silver medal for Long Jump. This was a huge achievement, particularly when we consider that all the schools in Congleton compete in this competition! Wow!

Well done to our retiring Rose Queen, Daisy A, and her attendants, for a wonderful closing ceremony. She handed over her crown beautifully to Lilah K, our new Rose Queen for 2019-2020. The attendants were also beautiful and did a wonderful job!
Also, thank you to Mrs Rowley for organising the whole event, which took a lot of time and effort!

National Sports Week 2019
Well, what a busy week we have had for National Sports Week. We were a little worried on Monday that the weather might ruin all of our plans, but luckily the sunshine turned up and we've had a wonderful week.
This year’s sports week focus was '5 Ways to Wellbeing' and each of these 5 ways have been focused on in a different way across the school.
Monday was all about being active, and year 1, 2, 3 and 4 children were certainly active on Monday morning. The children all took part in a rugby session, lead by Dan Robinson from Congleton Rovers Club. They learnt some of the skills for playing tag rugby and were well and truly worn out by the end of their session. By the smiles on their faces, learning this new sport was a hit! Dan is joining us again next week to give year 5 and 6 the opportunity to work with him too.
On Tuesday we connected with Castle Primary School and played in a friendly match against them at their school. The game was tough but our team played really well and didn't give up, showing perseverance and resilience throughout. A special well done to both Sadie, who did some amazing saves in the goal, and to Luke for keeping the spirits of his team up when things got tough.
Wednesday was all about giving back and some of year 6 children did just this on Wednesday afternoon by getting our little ones moving. Mackenzie, Luke, Abi and Haydn spent the afternoon on our sports field running obstacle course and races for Acorns and Olive Class. Judging by the laughter and cheering I could hear, I would say the children had a brilliant afternoon.
This year we haven't just focused on being physically fit and healthy but also about how we keep our mental health fighting fit too and this is a topic we talk about lots in school. So on Thursday we took notice through yoga of what our minds were telling us and each class took part in a yoga session, run by Mrs Cosgrove.
During the afternoon, Bee Active got Oak and Maple class busy again with a netball and dodgeball tournament!
Which leads us to Friday - Learn. Over the course of the week, the children have been learning about different sports personalities, including; Richard Whitehead MBE, The Brownlee Brothers and Dan Sturridge. They have not only learnt about their sporting achievements but also about what characteristics they hold to have lead them to these successes. We have talked lots about those two words, perseverance and resilience and how each of us have these skills we just have to dig deep to find them sometimes.

Read4Good, by Miss Booth

You might remember, back in the spring term, we ran a Readathon to raise money for a charity called Read 4 Good. The chairty raises money to buy new books for children in hospitals. This is due to the fact that used books cannot be donated to hospitals, due to the risk of infection.
Lots of children took part and we raised an amazing amount of £304.10! This money will now be donated to local hosiptals to buy some amazing new books!
Well done everyone who took part!
Juvenile Arthritis Day , by Miss Booth

We have had a lovely day in school today, supporting 'Wear Purple for Juvvenile Arthritis Day'.
Our campaign was organised by Theo, who was diagnosed with JA when he was seven years old. Theo lead our whole-school assembly this morning and educated not only the children but the staff too on just what JA is and his own experiences with this. We are all very proud of the way Theo manages JA and also how he has encourgaed his whole school to support him in his quest to raising money for a brilliant campaign.
Well done Theo and a huge well done to all of the children who wore purple today and donated.
Drama Presentation , by Miss Booth

What a lovely morning we had at school today. We started our morning with singing assembly in the hall, however this was no normal singing assembly. As a treat for the children, after they had worked so very hard on their Easter performance, we sang some of our favourite 'Friday Feelings' songs and had a kittle boogie! Even Mrs Massen joined in!
This excitement was followed by Maple and Oak Class children sharing their drama performances with the rest of the school and some of the parents. It was so wonderful to see a range of poems being performend in lots of different ways with lots of expression and actions.
The children who have attended drama club also showed us the poems they have been working on, including a littler surprise for Ms Warrilow in the form of an acrositc poem, written by themselves!
